🌸🚨 SPRING WARNING: Float Switch Tripping? Don’t Ignore It — It Could Save You From Water Damage 💧🏠
If your A/C has been turning on and then shutting off, or it won’t stay running in COOL, there’s a good chance your float switch (safety switch) is being activated.
In spring, humidity rises and your system creates more condensate water. When the drain line starts to clog (algae, sludge, dust) or the pan isn’t draining correctly, water backs up. The float switch trips and shuts the system off before it overflows into your attic, closet, ceiling, or walls.
✅ Common signs your float switch is tripping:
• A/C turns on, then shuts off again
• Thermostat calls for cooling but the system won’t keep running
• Musty smell near the indoor unit or vents
• Water in the drain pan or around the air handler
• You keep needing to reset the system
⚠️ Important: Never bypass the float switch. It’s a safety device. If it’s tripping, it’s warning you that the system has a drainage problem that needs to be fixed.
🧰 What we check during a spring visit:
• Drain line inspection + cleaning/flush
• Drain pan inspection (primary/secondary)
• Float switch operation test
• Confirm proper drainage and normal cooling operation
