🌸🚨 SPRING WARNING: Float Switch Tripping? Don’t Ignore It — It’s Protecting Your Home 💧🏠

If your A/C has been turning on and then shutting off, won’t stay running in COOL, or seems to “randomly stop,” there’s a very common reason in spring: the float switch (safety switch) is being activated.

What is the float switch?
The float switch is a safety device installed near your indoor unit (air handler/furnace coil area). Its job is to shut the system off when it detects water buildup—usually in the drain pan—so the water doesn’t overflow into ceilings, walls, closets, or attic insulation.

Why it happens more in spring
In Houston, spring humidity rises fast. Your A/C removes moisture from the air, creating condensate water. If your drain line starts to clog (sludge, algae, dust) or the pan isn’t draining correctly, water backs up. When it reaches a certain level, the float switch trips and stops the unit to prevent water damage.

✅ Common signs your float switch is tripping
A/C turns on, then shuts off again
Thermostat calls for cooling but the system won’t keep running
Musty smell near the indoor unit or vents
Water in the drain pan or around the air handler
You have to reset the system to get it running again

⚠️ Why you shouldn’t “bypass it”
Bypassing the float switch might make the A/C run temporarily—but it removes the safety protection and can lead to:
🚫 Ceiling stains and drywall damage
🚫 Wet insulation and possible mold growth
🚫 Costly cleanups and repairs
🚫 A full breakdown when summer heat hits

What we do on a spring float switch check
✅ Inspect the drain pan and drain line
✅ Clear/flush the drain system if needed
✅ Test float switch operation and safety shutoff
✅ Confirm proper drainage and normal cooling operation

💬 If your system is tripping the float switch, it’s a warning sign — catch it early and avoid bigger problems later.
